Over the past 15 years, SMM has sponsored 12 Congolese refugees. This has included providing accommodations and necessities for the refugee’s first year in Canada. Ongoing care and support for the physical and emotional well-being of these newcomer Canadians continues as they build a new life here in Canada.
In January 2002 parishioners at SMM launched
Full Plate, a community food and outreach program. By 2006, Full Plate had grown enough to require its own permanent full-time location and gave way to Morningstar Mission, a community leader in food security and poverty reduction programs.
In 2022, SMM launched the Harmony Lounge & Music Club which provides free music classes to youth ages 12 to 16. Harmony also runs a three-times-per-week after school drop-in program in concert with the community music school. Harmony seeks to be a safe and welcoming place where youth can grow connections and strive to make music part of their lives.
